HE KENA MPHONDA PRESENTS LETTERS OF CREDENCE TO FINLAND
During the presentation, Ambassador Mphonda made an appeal to Government of Finland to consider direct bilateral development assistance to Malawi.
The Ambassador also met the under Secretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Matti Antonnen, the Director-General for Africa and Middle East in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Jarno Syrjala, and discussed the request for humanitarian aid following the declaration of national disaster in Malawi.
The Ambassador also held meetings were held with CEO of FINNFUND (Finnish Fund for Industrial Cooperation Ltd), Mr Jakko Kangasniemi, Director General of the Institute, Prof. Juhani Damski on relations between the Institute and the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services in Malawi which go back to the 1980s.
Other meetings were also with Mr Vesa Korhonen, CEO of Nocart Ltd which is involved in Malawi, Members of Parliament Pekka Haavisto and Kai Mykkanen. He also met South African Ambassador to Finland, Ms C.J. Smidt, had dinner with Malawians resident in Finland and also visited Malawi Coffee shop known Cafetoria Roastery which sales Malawi/Mzuzu coffe
