IMMIGRATION AND CONSULAR

Welcome to the Malawi High Commission Immigration and Consular Services. We provide information and assistance to Malawi Citizens in the United Kingdom and all countries of accreditation namely; Ireland, Iceland, Denmark, Malta, Finland, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. We offer passport application (Note passports are processed in Malawi), Citizenship services, Emergency Travel documents, Police clearance (processed in Malawi) and apostille (legalisation of documents-birth, marriage and death certificates.)
Due to high volume of application and delays, the High Commission recommends that all applicants for passport and services processed in Malawi, at least do so 180 days before expiry of their visas or need for a new document to avoid inconveniences. Those travelling for emergency purposes can do so using EMERGENCY TRAVEL DOCUMENT to Malawi only.

 

MALAWI PASSPORT

PASSPORT REQUIREMENTS:

  • All Applicants should book an appointment in advance for all passport processes. They will be required to come in person to process once the appointment is granted.
  • Passports are processed on Tuesdays only and appointments should be made at least 7 days in advance.
  • Bring the following required documents for each service you would like to access:
Passport renewal for Adults and Children over 10 years : Lost Passport replacement for Adults and Children over 10 years Lost Passport replacement for minors below 10 years
  • Old passport
  • Two passport photos with clear white back ground (size 4.5 x3.5 cm)
  • Marriage/divorce/death certificates for married women who want to change the names
  • Birth certificate and national identity card for those born outside Malawi
  • Fee: £65 (Cash only)
  • Police report
  • Two passport size photos with clear white background
  • Copies of the lost passport or previous passports
  • Fee: £70 (cash only)
  • Two passport size photos with clear white background

 PLEASE NOTE: ALL PASSPORT APPLICANTS ARE REQUIRED TO SEND THEIR PASSPORTS AND APPLICATION FORMS TO MALAWI FOR PROCESSING. THE HIGH COMMISSION ONLY ASSISTS IN FINGER PRINT TAKING THERFORE ALLOW ENOUGH TIME TO PROCESS YOUR PASSPORTS.

Effective 1st September, 2022, Emergency Travel Document processing fees has been adjusted to £60 to reflect the amended Immigration Act (CAP. 15:03).

REPATRIATION OF REMAINS

The High Commission does not provide any financial support to repatriate remains of any deceased person. The High Commission only provides documentation to those that have no proper documentation.


For the documentation please submit the following:

  • Covering letter
  • Copy of death certificate
  • Copy of passport or birth certificate

COVID-19 TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Effective 1st June, 2022 the following are the travel requirements:
  • All incoming travellers, including Malawians that are fully vaccinated and have electronically varifiable COVID-19 vaccination certificates are no longer required to produce a COVID-19 cerficate prior to entering  the country
  • All incoming travellers, including Malawians, that are not fully vaccinated or don't have an electronically verifiable COVID-19 full vaccination certificate are required to produce a negative  PCR based COVID-19 certificate that is not older than 72 hours at the time of arrival in country
  • All children below the age of 12 years are to enter Malawi unconditionally (accompanying vaccinated parents/guardians).

Prior to making any travel booking please check if Malawi Emergency Travel Document is accepted by that airline and proceed to process your emergency travel document when the airline has granted its approval.

DUAL CITIZENSHIP
Malawi National Assembly passed the Dual Citizenship bill to amend the 1966 Citizenship act, hence permitting all persons of full age and capacity to hold another country's citizenship besides their Malawian citizenship. : All documents are sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Malawi by the person in need of the apostille. Allow enough time for the process to be completed.

POLICE CLEARANCE (CRB)


The following are required:

PURSUANT TO POLICE ACT 2012, POLICE(SPECIAL SERVICE CHARGES) REGULATIONS 2010, THE MALAWI POLICE SERVICE HAS REVISED UPWARDS FEES FOR PROCESSING POLICE CLEARANCE WITH EFFECT FROM 1 NOVEMBER, 2022. THE NEW FEE IS INDICATED BELOW:

Get fingerprints taken at any local police station and send them with: mark
