Malawians in diaspora support Covid-19 fight

Malawi’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Kena Mphonda says he is overwhelmed by the response of Malawians in the diaspora and friends of Malawi in the UK and the whole of Europe have shown towards helping the country in its fight against COVID-19 19.

Mphonda who himself is leading several initiatives to fundraise for equipment and Personal Protective Equipment, said since the state of disaster was declared, Malawians in the UK and other countries such as Ireland, Sweden and Norway have contributed to various initiatives.

Beds sourced and donated by the Malawi Healthcare Support charity based in the UK are now being distributed to new Covid 19 isolation centres whilst citizens initiative including one by UK based Malawian Dr. Thandi Palimuheya and Geneva based Stanley Onjezani Kenani, Bella and AJ Kulemeka initiative which provides food to healthcare workers at main Covid 19 centres among others have received support from Malawians in the UK.

Scotland Malawi Partnership, All Parliamentary Group at the UK Houses of Parliament and other prominent Non-Governmental Organisations have formed a Task Force on supporting provision of sustainable Oxygen and a wider group to lobby the UK and other governments to support vaccine provision to Malawi.
